A Positive Looking Future
In May 2021, I joined the Eskay Springfield Team. This centre has made a wonderful impact to my life, and I am so thankful to have the opportunity to grow and learn within a supportive environment. Previously I worked for 5 years at another centre with a very different approach and philosophy. I needed a change, one that was going to allow me to grow and learn new things in new ways. I wanted to broaden my career and my mindset for a better me.
When I first heard about Eskay Kids, I was curious as it was so different to what I had learnt and practiced over the years. From the moment I first stepped through the doors to now, it has been a wonderful experience.
On the day of my meeting with Summa, it has been a whirlwind of positiveness. When I walked in to Eskay from that first time, I was in aww of the amazing sight and sounds of the giggles and laughter of the children playing. There were smiles everywhere in the playground. I noticed that the doors to the rooms were open, and the children were choosing to play inside or outside. The mixture of all children – all rooms- all ages in the same yard, not being separated to stay in their own age groups?! Wow that was a new concept for me. How wonderful it was to see older siblings with their younger siblings too.
As I walked between the rooms, I noticed that I felt relaxed and comfortable. The atmosphere felt like a home rather than a classroom. It felt comfortable and homely. The way I describe it is ‘like the relaxing atmosphere of being at family daycare but in a centre’. I instantly fell in love and was very keen to start work at Eskay.
During my time here, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of nature in early childhoods. Walking barefoot to learn about balance, seeking own sensory play using water and dirt to make ‘mudpies’, and even able to use their own imaginations with loose parts to make an umbrella when it rains, these are just a few of our learning opportunities here at Eskay.
Now 4 months later, I love working here at Eskay Kids. I am happy to come to work every day as I know that there will be lots of laughter, fun and best of all cuddles.
