Tips for Healthy Eating and Sickness Prevention

The common cold and flu season can be a stressful time for parents. If children develop healthy food habits, flu season can be less of a risk. We are sharing some tips for healthy eating and sickness prevention at school:

1. Boosting the immune system:
The best way to prevent sickness is to boost your child’s immune system. The ultimate and easiest way to do this is to ensure your child has a balanced diet rich with immune system boosters; garlic, vitamin c, ginger, green vegetables, and zinc.

2. Hand washing:
Children are often engaged in outdoor activities and can get their hands dirty. Teach them to wash their hands properly before having their meals. Frequent hand washing is the key to staying healthy, so try to develop this habit. Hand wash should be done:

– After each meal
– Before each meal
– After using the toilet
– After coughing, sneezing

You can also give your children a hand sanitiser so that they can frequently sanitise their hands when hand-washing is not possible.

3. Pack healthy snacks:
Pack some healthy snacks rather than packaged snacks. Now we’re not saying they should never have junk food but opting for healthy snacks at school is one easy way to boost their immune systems and ensure they are getting all necessary nutrients. Some of the healthy options are fruit/dried fruit, yogurt, home-made muesli bars (or healthy ones you can buy), rice cakes with peanut butter or Nutella.

4. Physical exercise is a must:
Doing any kind of physical exercise is an integral part of good health. Teach your child to do some kind of physical activity daily, like playing sport, dancing, playing tag, riding bikes, etc. In order to increase the physical activity, limit the amount of time they spend on video games, T.V and staying indoors.
